The cheapest and easiest way to upgrade a room is with paint. You can get all you need for painting a large room for under $100. Another cheap idea is going to thrift stores, swap meets, and garage sales so you can bank yourself some vintage items that will spruce your home up at a great price. You can buy dressers, armoires, tables, art and furniture. You can also dress it up to your liking for a fraction of the cost if it were brand new. It really doesn’t take much to fix great vintage furniture and most of it is made better than the stuff they make today.
Here are some ways to add these ideas to you kitchen, bathroom, and storage area.
Kitchen:
Adding new hardware to the kitchen will make it look new. A new sink, faucet, cabinet knobs, and counter top appliances are examples of what can be changed to spruce up you kitchen.
Some of the cabinets inside our homes were made to last. The face of the cabinet might be beat up a little but that can be fixed. With wood all you have to do is sand off all the old paint, wipe the wood down, and re-paint. Once painted, add the nice knobs you have bought and there you go. Sand paper and paint are inexpensive, which means rehabbing your cabinets is cheap.
You can add extra storage for the pots and pans you normally use by hanging them over your oven. There are many forms of mounts for your wall or ceiling with different types of finishes. Make sure you match your metal finishes with your appliances.
Adding lighting to your kitchen gives it the open and welcoming touch that all kitchens should have. By changing lighting fixtures and adding lighting under cabinets, you can boost your kitchen’s welcoming ambiance. The kitchen is where most of our time is spent, so spend your time in light.
Bathroom:
Make your bathroom look spacious by painting the walls in solid colors. Add a big mirror over the sink because it will add light to the room by providing a custom look while making the room seem larger.
Bring you vanity back to par. Just like in the kitchen, changing you faucet can add a new look. Most sinks can also be redone without buying a new one. A sink can be re-glazed for under $100. Once re-glazed, your sink will look brand new and out of the box.
You can also install a granite counter-top for cheap if you do it yourself. It really isn’t hard, especially for a vanity-sized top. Shop for a piece of used granite from a granite warehouse. Most of the time they have pieces of granite that fit your vanity for cheap because for the warehouse that piece isn’t useable anymore—unless someone needs a very specific small size.
Finish off your bathroom by adding a little crown molding to the base boards for a great eye-popping look. You should also add a storage unit above your toilet.
Storage:
Finding space for all your stuff is a great way to keep your home looking great. You can find storage solutions in your home improvement store. Like many rooms in your home, design is a must for your closet. Make sure you find storage for your shoes, pants, accessories, shirts, etc. You should also upgrade your bar in order to hang your suits and dress shirts without a problem. Find a storage unit that can fit you t-shirts and sweat pants. Also, look for some boxes for things you don’t normally use. A shoe rack is a must-have if you share closet space with a woman.
Accessory storage is great for your watches and jewelry. Keeping your accessories organized and easy to reach will make it easier for you when its time to choose what to wear. Find some hooks for your belts on the side of your closet and get a tie-rack. This is a great way to know where your stuff is and without having to dig around for your tie or belt.
These are all simple (and cheap) solutions that will help make your home be more dapper.
