How Do I Act Like A Gentleman?

A lot of us have forgotten or were never taught how to be a true gentleman. Most men think it is cool to act tough and be disrespectful to women. But, if you want to get the respect from the ladies, you need to be a gentleman.

Being a gentleman can give you major brownie points when it comes to the ladies. It is 2012 and I still see men who act like little boys around grown women. Being a gentleman is always the way to go. Let me explain and give some tips on how to be a dapper gentleman.

Speaking & Listening

Women love a man who knows how to speak and especially knows how to listen. When you are speaking to women, try speaking to them like you are speaking to your mother or grandmother—with respect and clean language. Even if you know the lady you are speaking to does not mind foul language, do not allow yourself to get into that bad habit of it. Women love a man that actually listens. If a lady you are interested in is speaking to you, take the time and listen. I know it can be hard, but focus. When you are listening, look into their eyes and let them know that you are paying attention.

Compliments

Give compliments—even if you do not think they need it. Women love to hear compliments because it boosts their ego. If you compliment a lady they think you are paying attention their overall behavior and appearance. Also, make sure you do not take your compliments too far where they become creepy.

Things You Must Do

There are certain things you must do to become a legitimate gentleman. Certain things are a must when you are out in public. The first thing you have to do is “get the door.” What I mean by this is by opening all doors. When your lady is getting in or out of the car, always open the door for her. When you are entering any kind of building, make it a mission to get to the door first. Make sure you always open that door for her. Never let her open the door. Never.

Another vital thing to do is to always pull out chairs. Nowadays, we rarely see this, but pulling out chairs is a gentlemen trait. No matter where you go and there are chairs, make sure you pull the chair out and help her get adjusted at the table. Then, and only then, you may sit down.

When you and your date are walking down the street, always make sure you are walking on the side closest to the street. Not only is this for their safety, but in some cultures when a man walks on the inside of the sidewalk, this means they are “pimping” their lady—which hopefully you are not.

Things You Shouldn’t Do

There are some things men should absolutely not do. When around women, do not stare inappropriately at other women. It is not gentleman-like and it sickens women. Also, when you are talking to a lady, stay in the “eye zone.” Make sure you are staring at her eyes and not at her breasts. Another huge thing that women do not like is when you take a lady out on a date and “expect” anything more than just having a good time.

This is just the tip of the iceberg if you want to become a true dapper gentleman. Remember, being a gentleman is a lifestyle and it takes time to perfect. Being a gentleman does not happen overnight. It takes time to become the perfect gentleman and practice makes perfect.
