The brain is the central part of our whole being and without it we are essentially the walking dead.
We only use 10% of our brain, which means we still have much to learn. There is much more to the human brain than most people realize. Until we open Pandora’s Box we won’t know what our brain’s are capable of. We need to exercise the 10% that we actually use or else our brains become useless.
Puzzles are a great way to keep your mind in tip-top shape. Puzzles exercise your mind by having you work to solve the problem. Puzzles and games like chess, Sudoku, crosswords, and even monopoly keep your mind busy figuring out solutions to problems. This is true whether you play them on your computer, against someone else, or by yourself.
With so many puzzles and mind twisters available there is no reason why you shouldn’t work your brain out. You can play these on gaming consoles, board games, and even newspapers.
Be warned though. Don’t play games that do not require you to problem-solve or that desensitize your minds. These only hurt your mind by turning it into mush. Stick with games that are educational in some form or another.
Working out your body and keeping track in a notepad is also a great way to workout your mind. While working out, write down the number of sets and reps you do per workout. Also, write down how you feel about each workout. Did you like it or not? Would you do this work out again? Why or why not? By simply writing notes to yourself you are working out your mind.
Writing is a great mind workout. If you like jotting down your workouts, try keeping a daily personal journal. Here you can discuss your goals, ambitions, strengths, you name it. A lot of men are intimidated by keeping a journal but it’s been proven to increase your brain power and it’s also a great reliever of stress.
If you thoroughly enjoy writing, then you will probably enjoy reading. Before radio, television, and film, people entertained themselves with books. By reading a little bit each day you are increasing your vocabulary, knowledge, and cerebral strength. Start off with the classics and discover whole new worlds you never knew existed.
Another great way to workout your brain is by doing actual work. Do you have a leak that needs fixing in your home? Fix it. It’s been proven that doing home repairs keeps the mind sharp. This is true because, like puzzles, home repairs require your mind to think and come up with solutions to fix a problem.
By doing home repairs you kill two birds with one stone. On one hand you are working on keeping your mind sharp and on the other you are fixing that leak your wife’s been complaining about for weeks.
Part of being a dapper man is being smart. If you care about your body you should care just as much about your mind. Hit the gym and hit the books!
