Shooting Guns For Recreation

Shooting firearms can be dangerous, but it can also be fun and act as a great stress reliever. It is always a good time to go to the shooting range and let a few rounds off. It can also be a good way for family and friends to spend some much-needed quality time together.

There are several different types of guns for recreational shooting but the most popular are handguns, rifles, and shotguns. There are also several different types of recreational shooting with the two most common being the shooting range and an open field.

The most basic gun that people own and take shooting is the handgun. The handgun comes in many different forms like a revolver or a semi-automatic and most of the shooting with this type of gun is either for self-defense or target practice. Most people go to a local firing range to practice their shooting skills with the handgun where targets can range from paper cutouts to soda cans depending on where you go.

Another type of shooting is called “plinking.” This is usually done with a rifle because you are shooting targets at long ranges. There are several different types of rifles available but most people stick with a bolt-action rifle that requires the user to manually rack the bolt after each shot. More experienced shooters prefer semi-automatics or, if you’re lucky enough to live in a state that allows them, fully-automatics. Believe it or not, there are even World War II rifles that can be bought and used for plinking.

Game hunting is another popular sport that can be done for recreation with rifles. Game can range from small animals like birds and rabbits to larger ones like wild pigs and deer. Choosing a rifle that best suits the shooter is key to having fun in what you are doing. It’s always a good idea to start with a bolt-action rifle before moving on to something more powerful.

The last type of recreational shooting is skeet shooting and this is usually done with a shotgun. In this type of shooting, clay pigeons are thrown into the air and the shooter must shoot the pigeon out of the sky before it lands. The skeets can either be thrown out by a machine or by a person and is one of the most challenging forms of shooting. There are several different types of shotguns available for skeet shooting, ranging from pump-action to full-automatic if they are available in your state.

If you become a good enough shooter there are competitions that you can enter and win prizes. Two such competitions are the Tri Gun Competition and the Glock Shooting Competition. The Tri Gun Competition is, as it sounds, an obstacle course where the shooter will test their skills with a handgun, shotgun, and rifle. This competition is probably the hardest but also the most fun. The Glock completion is open to Glock handguns only and tests how many targets a shooter can hit and utilizes a point system. Both are very challenging but also rewarding if you dedicate enough time and effort into your shooting.

All these activities, except game hunting, can be done at your local firing range. Check your local gun
clubs or firing ranges for more information regarding events. Remember, shooting can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. If you’re thinking of doing any of these activities it is recommended that you take some classes first.
