The 6740

If you’re looking for a dapper bar, check out The 6740 in Uptown Whittier. It’s only a few steps away from The Compound and has one of the best selections of beer I’ve ever seen. As dapper guys, we’re always in search for that one local bar that we can rely on and The 6740 fits the bill. There is no need to search around anymore–The 6740 is all you need.

Located in a busy neighborhood of restaurants, clothing stores, and multiple bars–The 6740 manages to stand out from the crowd due to its laid back traditional American feel. This is the kind of bar you can walk into wearing your favorite t-shirt with a pair of jeans and fit right in. It’s not a “dirty dive bar” by any means–but it’s down to earth and you can be yourself. No pretentiousness going on in here!

If you’re a beer fanatic like myself, The 6740 will impress you with their vast selection of libations from all around the globe. Murphy’s, Boddington’s, Guinness, Franzikaner, Dry Blackthorn and many more are all on tap. If you’re a more simpler man, they also have the usual Bud Light and Pyramid Hefeweizen to make you happy. And don’t worry about your lady, she’ll have plenty of wine to choose from if she doesn’t want a beer belly.

Mike, the owner of the bar, is one of the nicest and most dapper guys you’ll ever meet. If you see him, feel free to ask him about the beer selection and what he recommends. He’s always ready to lend a helping hand and teach you a thing or two about booze! At most bars you’ll never see the owner unless it’s time to collect the rent. But at The 6740, Mike can be seen on a regular basis just hanging out with the crowd and enjoying a game with a brew like the rest of us.

Like any bar, The 6740 has its regulars. But unlike most places, these guys are friendly and welcoming to newcomers. It almost reminds me of the show Cheers where everybody knows your name and there is always an interesting conversation going on. The same goes for the staff. All the bartenders and servers are very sociable and are willing to go out of their way to make your evening special.

When it comes to the food, The 6740 can’t be beat. They seriously have some of the best bar food you’ll ever experience. Grilled herb potatoes, rosemary chicken salads, chicken pesto sandwiches, garlic burgers, fish & chips and much more are all available. Usually when you’re at a bar you don’t want to even think about food, but at The 6740 it’s exceptional. You’ll believe you’re at a 5-star restaurant as you’re munching down–that’s how good it is.

For entertainment they keep things simple with a couple of TV’s and a jukebox. If you want to play games you should really go somewhere else. This is a place to enjoy your drink and your company–not wait in line for a pool table to open up or dodge darts being thrown near your head. Just order your beer, pick a good song on the box, and enjoy the baseball game as you chat it up with your new pals.

The busiest nights at The 6740 are Thursday through Saturday and if you want to meet new people these are the best times to go. The place can get really packed but it’s always guaranteed you won’t have to wait long for a drink because the staff is very attentive here. Next time you want to watch a game or a fight, give The 6740 a try and you won’t be disappointed.
