Here in L.A. you don’t get to see many payphones because the city decided to yank them out of the ground once everybody had a cellphone. For some reason though, New York City kept their payphones around and now they’re finally going to put them to good use. According to NYC’s Tumblr page, they are slowly converting these useless boxes into free Wi-Fi hotspots across all the five boroughs. So far they’ve installed 10 and more are expected to be completed before the end of summer. This announcement comes after New York has already replaced 250 payphones with 22-inch touchscreen computers with internet access. What do you think? Should we do the same thing here in Los Angeles and other parts of the world? Is this too much technology?
