Finally, after much anticipation, the movie we have all been waiting for has arrived. In the third installment of the Batman series with director Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale stars alongside Michael Cain, Tom Hardy, and Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises. After a long hiatus, Bruce Wayne is back in action and ready to battle the evil terrorist Bane who is set on destroying Gotham City.
After out-smarting much of Gotham’s finest, Bane takes Batman to the brink of self-destruction. This isn’t too hard to do because our hero is still wrought after the death of his significant other and Harvey Dent’s as well. Batman is so distraught throughout this movie that he literally turns his back on his friends, his hopes, and the city he once used to protect. It seems like all hope is lost for Gotham and if Batman won’t save them, who will?
The final chapter of The Dark Knight trilogy is a must-see movie for this summer. It has plenty of action as well as emotional turns and twists. Batman finds himself fighting against Bane and a slew of evil, but he also has to wage battle against his own fear of death. Bruce Wayne makes a lot of important choices in this film that essentially decide if there will ever be a life after being the Batman.
Bane’s demeanor is the polar opposite of the Joker’s psychological games that were prevalent in the previous film–he is 100% pure strength. Bane is the type of character that is straight to business and doesn’t bother being witty or cute. Chris Nolan did a great job in providing us with another villain that not only rivals Academy Award winner Heath Ledger’s, but surpasses him at times. I know those are big shoes to fill but Tom Hardy did an excellent job in his portrayal of the sinister character.
The title of this movie is appropriate because Batman definitely rises–rises to the occasion. This 2 hour and 45 minute action-packed extravaganza definitely raises the bar on what a great summer movie should be. With new characters, impeccable story telling, and awesome special effects, I give this movie 4.5 out of 5 crowns. If you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend you make it to the theater this weekend and do so!
